is changing the landscape of professional snowboarding with the introduction of the backcountry specific, natural terrain inspired snowboarding competition, the Natural Selection Tour. Travis's latest addition to the Tour is 'DUELS' takes 2 pro snowboarders and puts them in a direct head to head competition.
This years Tour held a few different 'DUELS' around the globe. Purgatory Snowcat Adventures and Purgatory Resort were honored to host Nils Mindnich and Victor Daviet for their competition in the backcountry.
Venue Changes
Amidst the largest snowstorm of the season, backcountry conditions were steadily becoming more unsafe, meaning a quick call had to be made. The course had to be changed to within resort bounds to keep everyone safe. This required immense effort from myself, others on the marketing team, the lead groomer, and numerous volunteers.
Drone Footage
The Natural Selection Tour sends a production team to each 'DUEL', and they had a <10 person crew for our episode. The small crew coupled with heavy snowfall led to production difficulties. This is where I stepped in to cover- particularly with drone footage. Most arial footage in this episode was captured by myself, as well as some of the A cam shots.
Meet Scout:
Filming with cats can be difficult, especially when a uniform is involved. This made Scouts unwillingness to work with us all that more authentic.
